During my first project at Arts University Bournemouth, I worked as a dresser on CTRL C. The production was written in collaboration with the students on the BA (Hons) Creative Writing Course, who devised the play.
It was performed at St Peter’s church, the burial place of Mary Shelley.
The show fused contemporary costumes with period 17th-century garments. As a dresser, I was involved in helping the actors get into their costumes. I also performed alterations and last-minute repairs.
I also assisted the costume supervisor with the washing and ironing of the costumes. This was especially important on the days when there were two shows. Working in a church presented its own challenges. There were no traditional washing facilities (washing machine and tumble dryer), so this required creativity and problem-solving; In the end using a hairdryer to dry the clothes off!
