During my second year at University, I created costume designs for a theoretical production of Treasure Island. As part of this, I realized an 18th Century jacket and waistcoat for the character of Long John Silver from one of these designs.
All the fabric, buttons, and trimmings for this project were sourced sustainably from waste or second-hand materials, giving new life to the old. These included upholstery fabrics, curtain trimmings, and cushion covers, amongst others. The lining was a patchwork created from scrap fabrics, which gave the garment a storybook-like quality.
I was able to improve my sewing skills and also practice new techniques, such as quilting.
