On this production, I took on the role of Costume Designer. I worked with the director to meet his requirements for each character - he wanted a distinctive look for each of the sisters, along with a clear separation between their day and night costumes.
The show was completely sourced. I worked in conjunction with the costume supervisors to find and source these garments, including from local hire houses. Due to Covid restrictions, we were limited in buying online and sourcing from local providers.
This show posed many challenges, as it had to abide by government guidelines on social distancing to prevent the spread of Coronavirus. A variety of new restrictions were put in place which the costume department had to abide by.
These included:
-
Costumes had to be quarantined for 72 hours before being worn. This meant they could not be altered or touched during this time.
-
All costumes had to be bagged before and after being worn. Preferably, they were only to be touched by sanitized hands, or the actors wearing them.
-
Regular hand sanitizing.
-
Sanitization of equipment, workspaces, and dressing rooms.
-
Actors socially distanced on stage.
-
PPE (masks) to be worn by the crew at all times. Cast to wear masks, unless during takes.
-
Dressing to be kept to a minimum. Where close contact is unavoidable, both the dresser and the actor must be wearing medical grade mask and visor for their protection.
